The beginning of the life：Fertilization

For me, every life is filled with challenges, fragility, and is hard-earned. In the process of fertilization, approximately three hundred million sperm navigate countless obstacles, with only one lucky enough to unite with the egg, marking the beginning of a new journey of life.

This piece captures that miraculous moment—three sperm competing to fuse with a single egg in metaphase II of meiosis within the fallopian tube. The sperm must navigate through the protective layers, such as the corona radiata (constructed by many follicular cells  Indian agates as nuclei) and the transparent zone, to reach the egg (with a baroque pearl representing the egg’s nucleus).

The formation of a fertilized egg marks the beginning of a new life—fragile and precious, just like each of us. We are here, we are the lucky ones.

This piece celebrates life as a gift and reminds us to cherish its extraordinary journey. As the designer, I created it to capture life’s beauty and fragility. Owning it serves as a daily reminder to appreciate the miracle of life.
